Saint Joan of Arc
On one cool night (disclosure: I've no idea if it was actually night, nor cool) in 1412 France, a peasent woman named Isabelle Romée gave birth to a child who would grow to become the badass (or potentially mildly insane) heroine of France, St Joan of Arc. When Joan was 13 she began hearing voices of whom she claimed belonged to St Catherine, St Margaret and St Michael. These voices told her that she would aid the heir of the French throne, Charles, in his fight against England and see him crowned as King of France. At 18 years old, Joan offered him her aid and was literally laughed at, she eventually managed to obtain an audience with young Charles who then gave her an army and sent her to battle. By following the commands of the voices she managed to drive out the English troops and end the siege, earning herself popularity throughout France and the title the "Maid of Orleans". After their initial defeat of England, Joan thought it might be cool if they also took English-controlled Paris. However after only 1 day of fighting, Charles nicked off, recalling troops and funds, leaving Joan to fight on by herself. Which is where her luck unfortunately ran short. While nobally holding off troops so the town's people could flee, Joan was captured by the Burgundians and sold to the English. Killing her immediately would cause mass outrage so instead they enlisted to have her discredited through the accusation of witchcraft and heresy. At the ripe old age of 19 (When I was 19 I had maybe $3.75 to my name and a bad knee) Joan was burned at the stake.
Fun fact: While in captivity, Joan attempted to escape twice, one of these times she jumped from a 60-foot tower (that's almost 20 meters!!) and survived.
What makes her the most badass, is not that she was once hit in the neck with a flying arrow while in battle, which she pulled out so she could continue to fight, or that she was literally hit in the head with a cannonball, but she actually fought all her battles in a dress, with armour over the top #actualgoals
